The Specialized Services Department of the
Westmoreland County Blind Association meets the needs of the blind and
visually impaired throughout the
CHORE SERVICES:
A.
appliance marking
B.
reading & reviewing
mail
C.
filling out paper
work & applications
D.
picking up
groceries for the consumer
E.
assisting in
shopping for and with the consumer
LIFE SKILLS
EDUCATION:
(Established to
promote independence for the consumer through)
a.
educational
sessions from the staff & outside resources
b.
demonstrating usage
of visual aides & appliances
c.
teaching consumers
how to better acquaint themselves to daily activities
TRANSPORTATION:
a.
medical
appointments
b.
banks
c.
grocery stores
d.
pharmacies
e.
other agencies such
as AAA, Social Security Office, etc.
GUIDANCE &
COUNSELING:
a.
to provide
counseling to blindness related issues
b.
to assist in
guiding the consumer to proper outside resources
ADVOCACY:
a.
to seek out
resources that can benefit the consumer regarding their blindness or visual
impairment.
b.
to ensure that the
consumer’s rights are not being violated.
